Long-lasting sandbox adventure game Minecraft developer Mojang Studios recently released a new update, adding two Easter egg elements from the “Minecraft Movie”: Steve’s catchy “Lava Chicken” record, and a portrait of his pet wolf, “Dennis.”

The film adaptation has surpassed $954 million globally at the box office, becoming the second highest-grossing film of 2025, second only to Ne Zha 2. To celebrate the movie’s success, Warner Bros. specially released a “Block Party Edition” re-release, emphasizing interactive segments featuring classic lines and songs from the film. On the game side, following the previously released movie-themed DLC, this free update specifically adds two items based on film elements.

In the movie, Dennis is the blocky, grayish-white wolf pup tamed by Steve, played by Jack Black. He shoulders the important mission of escorting the “Orb of Dominance” and the “Earth Crystal” through the portal. Now, players can obtain his pixel art portrait in both the Java Edition and Bedrock Edition of the game, to be used for decorating buildings or any location.

The other new addition, the “Lava Chicken Music Disc,” contains the instrumental version of the “Lava Chicken Song” sung by Steve when he demonstrated his automatic chicken cooker in the film. Players can obtain it randomly by defeating Chicken Jockeys. Currently, this disc is only available in the Java Edition. Mojang states that the Bedrock Edition will be added in a future update, but no specific timeline has been announced.

It’s worth noting that “A Minecraft Movie” began preparation in 2014 and, after numerous setbacks including the pandemic, was finally released in 2025. Given its impressive box office performance, a sequel, tentatively titled “Another Minecraft Movie,” has already entered pre-production. The character “Steve,” portrayed by Jack Black in the film, contributed numerous classic scenes and internet memes, and it’s anticipated that the sequel will seek to have him reprise the role.
