Redstone circuits in Minecraft are a very unique game mechanic that players can use to create all kinds of automatic machinery. But for a circuit to function properly, it needs a signal source to emit signals. Most players typically use items like redstone torches, redstone blocks, or levers as signal sources. But did you know? Besides these traditional signal sources, there are many other items in the game that can also emit redstone signals, although they require a redstone comparator to conduct the signal.
Cake

Cake is a very delicious food item that players can craft in the game using wheat, milk, eggs, and sugar. If a cake falls on the ground, nearby pandas will smell it, come over, pick it up, and quickly eat it.

This delicious cake, which even pandas love to eat, actually emits a redstone signal. The signal strength output by the cake depends on how much of it is left. Each slice of cake outputs a redstone signal of strength 2. A full, complete cake can output a redstone signal of strength 14.
Composter

A composter is a block item that can turn crops and plants into bone meal fertilizer. You can craft it using 7 wooden slabs of any type.

Composters can also emit redstone signals. The signal strength they emit depends on the level of compost inside the composter. Each layer of compost increases the signal by one. From completely empty to completely full, a composter can output a redstone signal ranging from 0 to 8. (So, does that mean it’s actually the fertilizer inside that’s emitting the signal?)
End Portal Frame

To defeat the Ender Dragon, you must find an end portal frame in a stronghold. Using it, you can travel to the End and fight the powerful boss, the Ender Dragon.

However, you might find it hard to believe that the end portal frame, used for teleportation, can also emit a redstone signal. But an end portal frame can only emit a signal if it has an eye of ender placed in it.
Lectern

The lectern is a workstation block added in version 1.14. It allows a villager to become a librarian or enables multiple players to read a book simultaneously.

The strength of the redstone signal output by a lectern depends on the page number of the book opened on it. The signal it emits can reach a maximum strength of 15.
